Evaluation to creating the blog

I have practiced in the studio doing a photo shoot and have paid a small part in making a video. The photo shoot was really enjoyable as i liked finding out how to work in the studio and using the studio camera which creates very focused photos. I am still getting the hang of using my blog, uploading things, inserting labels etc but i am getting the hang of it. I am enjoying this blog assignment as i like the way we can take photographs and put them on our blogs saying how we did it and what we like about it so we can state our own opinions. I also think it's a change in our way of working by making a blog on the computer and i like the change so we aren't always working in sketch books.

Practice - poster shoot

This was our first practice shoot and i think it worked successfully for saying it was the first time we had used the studio. We went into the studio to practice what it's like in there taking photos and playing about with the lighting and props. These photos interlink with fashion photography as the lads are dressed fashionably and the modern/retro props also reflect this. Some of these images such as the ones where there are all 3 lads in the photo are similar to the work of Gered Mankowitz when he photographs bands with more than 1 person. I was aiming to reflect his work in my work as i think his photos are interesting and different. Joe, Connor and Dave are brilliant models! 

Gered Mankowitz photography

This image caught my eye as i really like the composition as there is only half of the man photographed. The use of black and white works effectively as it draws the eye to the image of the dark man against the white wall. 

I really like this image because i like the way the people are centered as it shows they are the main object. By having the background lighter behind the people creates a good effect as it makes them stand out more against the darker background.

This image is very interesting as there is a lot going on and there is lots of colour involved in the image. I also like the composition of this photo as it is landscape and it's quite similar to a film strip. The way the curtain is centered in the middle of the image splits it up to create a busy and less busy side of the photograph and i think this works effectively by being unbalanced.

The lighting and tone of this image makes it eye catching and unique. I love the way the photo is taken looking up to the people as this almost makes them look superior as there above the camera. The border around the image is dark which makes the people centre of attention in the photo.

I like this image because i feel it could fit into the category of fashion photography as its a photo of a beautiful women and this is the kind of photos i am planning on taking. I like the simplicity of the photo as it works very well with just a small amount of light on top of her head to bring out the colour of her hair.

I like this image as it is in a series and i also think it works effectively how he is wearing a different colour jacket in each photo. The way his facial expressions are looks like he is slowly turning round too look at the camera and this is quite like a film strip similar to the third image. The way the background is plain and simple makes the person stand out more and this works well so your attention is drawn to him.

This image could also be seen as fashion photography as the women is wearing fashionable clothing and the room behind her is very modern and classy which adds to the effect. In this photo the women is not immediately seen as the main object as there is a lot going on in the background which is eye catching.

I really like this image because there is only a small amount of light used and this makes the people stand out more against the black background. Also it is different that they have used candles as the light instead of fake light. This image has quite an ere atmosphere to it as it's very dark and just has the candle light.

Rankin - Fashion photography

This photo is simply a model photographed against a black background. The composition of the model works  well as it draws your eyes immediately towards her especially with the white throw around her neck as it's one of the few colours in the image. 

This photo is of a model stood against a white wall with a table and lamp as props. The models clothing is also simple which is similar to the backdrop and this works as it follows a pattern. The colours are very light and neutral and this clashes against the models boots and sunglasses. 

Lilly Allen is being photographed in quite a serious and sexy look. It's a portrait image and the same kind of style you would use in a magazine. Similar to the image above, the colours are very neutral and light and this works effectively as Lilly's hair is very dark and contrasts against the white feathery shoulder piece making her head the visual point.  

The eye catching boots and long wavy hair take over the plain simple grey background making the image much more interesting. The way the model has been placed is different as she looks like she's sitting on a chair. 

Model on a beach, the scarf draws your eyes to attention as it's very floaty. The way the scarf is blowing follows the horizon line and this shows the rule of thirds. All these photographs follow the similar pattern of a light background and the model in dark clothing.  

Model against a plain grey background her hair blowing is similar to the floaty sleeves on the shirt she is wearing. A standard image created into something so eye catching just by blowing her hair back. 

Model kneeling down by white background. This image has a different colour scheme to the rest as this is in black and white. I like the style of this photograph as it is just the model alone with no coloured back ground to draw your attention towards. 

Florence and the machine

The first picture is a portrait location image of Florence and the machine. Florence is the main singer in the band therefore she is at the front of the photo and her band members, backing singers, are behind her.  I like this band because their music is unique and the singer, Florence, has an amazing powerful voice.        

         Florence and the machines sound has been described as a combination of various genres, including rock and soul. Their debut album 'lungs' was released on 6th July and held No.2 position in the UK album charts for it's first five weeks. On 17th January 2010 the album reached No.1 in the UK album chart having remained in the chart for 28 weeks. The album has been within the UK top 40 for 63 weeks making it one of the best selling albums of 2009 and 2010 so far. 

Introduction

For a different style of working and presenting we have been asked to create a blog to publish our on going work. This blog should be updated after everything we have done to keep up an ongoing documentary of our working progress. There are 4 parts of this Wednesday's assignment: 

1. Creating a blog

2. Creating a CD cover or flyer/poster

3. Creating a stop motion video

4. Creating an i-d magazine

Research and final work will be presented on the blog and our tutors can see what we have done and comment on our blogs as we go along. We also have to put our work in a sketchbook for the i-d magazine and we have to create the magazine on photo shop and print it.
